Our youngest evokeAG. 2020 Future Young Leader, 19 year old Angela Hughes, wants to connect the hospitality and agricultural industries so that together, they can better satisfy customer demands. The Mittagong local is currently studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management at Charles Sturt University whilst working on her family’s beef property and juggling two part-time jobs.
What do you want to do when you graduate?
I want to continue breeding Poll Herefords on my family’s farm. I also want to complete a high school teaching degree, so I can educate the future young leaders of our agricultural sector as they face challenging but exciting times.
I want to educate people about the importance and need for agriculture as well as the dynamics of the sector. By doing this, people may have renewed perceptions and a better understanding about the industry. It is so important that people understand that agriculture has an impact on everyone.
Why do our hospitality and agricultural industries need to be working better together?
It’s important for the agricultural and hospitality industries to be able to work together with the common goal of satisfying the consumers’ needs and wants. Both industries need to communicate efficiently to be able to reach these goals. A key area to focus on is for both industries to better understand supply chain management.
What’s the one message you want to leave with evokeAG. delegates?
The agricultural industry is such a viable sector to be a part of. It’s an industry to be excited about as times are constantly changing and this demands innovation. Education is a crucial aspect into nurturing innovation hence my passion in this area.
I am a massive opportunist when it comes to agriculture and I think the event is an amazing platform for young people such as myself to express their passion and ideas for agriculture.
What are you most looking forward to about evokeAG. 2020?
I’m looking forward to working with the other Future Young Leaders as we share our passions and ideas about the agricultural and food tech industries.
This event is an incredible opportunity for me as a university student because it isn’t just my peers and younger members of the public attending the event, it’s an international audience, which includes investors, government representatives and representatives from a range of industries and businesses.
