Ripe Robotics was founded with the goal of changing an industry that has been left behind by technological innovation. Fruit has been picked the same way for as long as we can remember, but recent advances in artificial intelligence and robotics have now made automation possible.
Robots can work 24/7, they can pick the fruit more gently and are more consistent in assessing quality than humans. They don’t requirement management and continuously improve over time. Information the robots gather can be used to improve the machines for the following harvest, both in a general way (by recognising ripe fruit or detecting disease), and in a specific way (remembering where, when and how much every tree in the orchard produced). The data can be piped into other areas of the fruit growing process, including informing spraying, pruning and thinning decisions before the harvest, and making sorting and storage more efficient after the harvest.
Ripe Robotics has worked through five major iterations of our harvesting machine and now boasts a low-cost and maintainable design with the potential to scale commercially.
